Doug Knopper

Doug Knopper, Media-Tech Industry Leader, Appointed to Tide Foundation Advisory Board.

PALO ALTO, California 9 Dec 2019 6am PT – In the lead up to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) taking effect, Tide Foundation, an open source privacy technology venture, have announced the timely appointment of Doug Knopper to their advisory board to establish a foothold in the U.S.

Knopper, an active advisor and board member to many companies, was co-Founder/co-CEO of FreeWheel, which was acquired by Comcast in 2014 for $375 million. Prior to FreeWheel, he spent six years as General Manager at DoubleClick in New York and London, and was part of its initial $1.1 billion sale. In addition, he previously held numerous senior roles at advertising agencies and broadcasting companies, including Chiat Day, Lowe, JWT, and Bonneville Broadcasting.

Michael Loewy, Co-founder Tide Foundation commented: “Having led large enterprises driven by sensitive consumer data, Doug is acutely aware of the challenges they face in protecting that data and complying with stringent new privacy legislation.”

“Tide’s technology and business model are engineered to address the critical commercial needs of organisations handling sensitive consumer data in a manner that empowers their customers with unprecedented privacy.”

“Doug’s commercial acumen, together with his passion for making a positive impact, make him a natural fit and we’re incredibly excited to work with him.”

Speaking on his appointment, Knopper said that “Mass data breaches and new data privacy legislation are creating extraordinary challenges for organizations. Additionally, individuals, who have no choice but to share their data, are feeling exploited and are demanding accountability.”

“Tide’s visionary, yet practical approach to addressing the challenges faced by industry, together with the needs of individuals, really caught my attention. They’ve developed a model that I can see being embraced quickly.”

Knopper joins a growing cohort of high-calibre advertising, media and technology heavyweights along with forward thinking politicians, entrepreneurs and academics pledging to help Tide create a new privacy-centric global standard for handling consumer data, for the mutual benefit of individuals and industry.
